In the Op-Ed column, Dmytro Firtash asks

WASHINGTON, January 26, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — In an op-ed published today by his attorney, Lanny J. Davisin Davis Average account, Ukrainian businessman Dmytro Firtash posed the question to his fellow Ukrainians: “Why can’t you Ukraine Be the Switzerland of Eurasia?” Firtash was referring to the fact that Ukraine has historically, going back to the Middle Ages, been “at the commercial crossroads between Europe and Asia.”

In May 2014Firtash wrote an editorial for the Kyiv Post title : “Ukraine must be strong, independent and neutral.” Firtash’s article today referred to this op-ed from eight years ago, then commented on the current crisis:

“With the assembled Russian military forces Ukraine border and President Biden and NATO allies warn of severe consequences if Russia violates our sovereignty and invades, the title of my Kyiv Post The editorial from eight years ago remains equally relevant to the current crisis. And more importantly, it offers a likely answer to that.”

But in today’s op-ed, Firtash stresses that this should be a decision made by Ukrainians and not under pressure from outside forces or nations.

“I have no doubt that I speak for many Ukrainians who would like to have the best of both worlds: neutrality, trade with all and good relations with all. And why not? That would mean more jobs and prosperity for Ukraine. A neutral Ukraine should not be considered a threat to America, EuropeWhere Russia. The “if you’re not with us, you’re against us” attitude isn’t just bad. In the current circumstances, it is dangerous,” writes Firtash.

Firtash added:

“It’s a shame Ukraine cannot make the decision to declare its preference for neutrality without the current crisis giving the impression that it is doing so because of external threats – rather than in its own interest, as it is.

Firtash’s op-ed was published by one of his American lawyers, Lanny J. Davis, on Davis’ Medium.com account. Davis’ co-lawyer in the United States is Dan Webbformer US Attorney of Chicago.

In his editorial’s tagline, Firtash revealed the following:

“Mr. Firtash, a successful Ukrainian businessman, has been forced to reside for the past nine years in Vienna, Austria, where he resisted extradition to the United States on an indictment based on allegations of a “bribery scheme” by Indian officials – not actual bribery – having nothing to do with the United States. He categorically denied these accusations. »
