MARGAO: There is nothing wrong with collecting sopo fees from those who sell fish outside the wholesale fish market by parking their vehicles in the parking lot, and many do, said Councilor Mahesh Amonkar.
Early on Friday morning, the counselor and a few of his friends visited the wholesale fish market to personally verify the problem.
There was an allegation from a section of fishermen that the sopo collector hired by the Margao city council was taking charges even if the vehicles were parked in the parking space.
Meanwhile, the sopo collector also met with MMC chief Agnelo Fernandes and clarified the allegation made by part of the fishing community.
Later, the CO again stated that the civic body had not notified any place in the jurisdiction of Margao as a paid parking zone, and therefore the sopo collector or any other person is not entitled to collect the charges. Parking Fee.
