South Africa vs India, 3rd ODI Predicted Playing XI: Big changes for dead rubber India?

India could look to find solutions to their wobbly middle order and inability to take wickets in the middle while trying to avoid a series loss to South Africa in the third ODI. India suffered heavy defeats in the first and second ODIs to concede a series loss as they looked woefully unable to adapt to the terms on offer at Paarl.

Things might be different in Cape Town, but the fact remains that India’s inability to avoid meltdowns has hurt them in the first two ODIs. In the bowling department, head coach Rahul Dravid might consider trying Deepak Chahar in place of Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

It is also likely that Prasidh Krishna can get the green light with Jasprit Bumrah likely to be rested. The speedy bowler has been involved in every match India have played on the circuit so far and so it will come as no surprise if he is retained to handle his workload.

While Rishabh Pant was impressive, India’s midfield order contributed little in the opening two matches. Shreyas Iyer, who scored 11 and 17, could be the man to retire with Suryakumar Yadav waiting in the wings.

South Africa, on the other hand, were clinical, with the number of lost catches in the second game being the only real concern. Marco Jansen, who was rested in the second ODI, could be brought back and they could also consider giving Dwaine Pretorius a try in the lower middle order.
