After two years and several filming shutdowns for positive COVID-19 tests, the acclaimed Hulu comedy Wake up returned. Where was Wake up Season 2 filmed?

What is ‘Woke’ season 2 about on Hulu?

Black cartoonist Keef Knight (Lamorne Morris) finds himself aiming for mainstream success after creating Toast and butter. Usually, the artist avoids including controversial topics in his work, such as racism, religion, and politics.

However, an incident with a hostile policeman changed his position.

Affected by the interaction, Keef then realized his ability to communicate with inanimate objects and began to open his eyes to everyday racism and microaggressions. Now the cartoonist must navigate his relationships and his burgeoning career as a “woke” black man.

Wake up Season 2 follows a now famous Keef who has established himself as an artist-activist. However, the cartoonist has to deal with all that fame entails, including fans wanting to hear his opinion on almost any subject and a surge in criticism.

Where was ‘Woke’ filmed on Hulu?

Hulu’s Comedy Season 2 Wake up kicked off filming in Atlanta, Georgia in June 2021. Filming was supposed to wrap the following month, but multiple positive COVID-19 tests resulted in three scheduled shutdowns.

A source said Variety that the show followed “less than stellar” ignored protocols and mandates shortening shooting days, as crew members would have worked multiple 14-hour days.

As a result, production was suspended indefinitely in July 2021, pushing back the date for the conclusion of filming. Talk to Variety ahead of the show’s April 2022 premiere, Morris, who plays lead character Keef, spoke about the production delays.

He claimed the first shutdown occurred mainly due to ‘contact tracing’, as it resulted in the closure of many ‘key departments’. According to the actor, the closures resulted in an additional month of filming. Even so, Morris says the frequent shutdowns haven’t affected the storyline of Season 2.

How many episodes will there be of “Woke” season 2?

Created by cartoonist and musician Keith Knight and inspired by his life story, Wake up Season 1 premiered on Hulu in September 2020 to favorable reviews. As a result, he received a renewal a few months later. Season 2 was released on Hulu on Friday, April 8, 2022.

The comedy is available to Hulu subscribers and on Apple TV for $1.99. The two seasons of Wake up dropped with eight episodes each. Therefore, there are a total of 16 episodes in the comedy so far.

“Woke” Season 2 Cast

Morris leads the cast as Keef, with Blake Anderson as the cartoonist’s roommate, Gunther. T, Murph stars as roommate and friend Clovis, Rose McIver as Keef’s girlfriend and artist Adrienne, and Sasheer Zamata, who is remembered for his time on saturday night liveportrays Ayana, a Bay Arean reporter who calls Keef.

Aimée Garcia joined the Wake up Season 2 stars Laura, a Silicon Valley venture capitalist who offers money to help Keef’s cause, and Miguel Pinzon as Tommy, an outspoken artist who helps the cartoonist consider his militant stances.

Keef can also communicate with intimate objects and popular comedians including JB Smoove as Marker, Nicole Byer and Eddie Griffin as 40oz Bottles, Cree Summer as Paper Bag, Tony Hale as Butter, Sam Richardson as Toast, Jack McBrayer as Sad Face, Cedric the Entertainer as Trash Can, and Keith David as Bible.

Wake up is currently streaming on Hulu.
